The Age of Plague: Social and Medical Conditions and Induced Social Conflicts and Discriminations in the First, Second, and Third Pandemics

Synopsis: Our project focuses on social and medical conditions and induced social conflicts in pandemics. Though reading primary source documents and reports and comments today, we compare and contrast the conditions and attitudes of the first, second, third pandemics as well as Covid-19. For social conditions, we analyze population densities, economic conditions, governmental systems, regional or global conflicts and wars, civil rights, and scientific awareness and technological development, especially the one on biological and medical science. Constantinople in the Plague of Justinian, Italy in “Black Death,” and Hong Kong in 1894 Plague are the cases that we lay emphasis on.
