Synopsis: Prior to the arrival of the Black Death in Eurasia, the societies of countries in Western Europe were based on religious authority. However, the arrival of the plague brought new scientific and medical information along with it, stirring doubt amongst the common folk and evoking the migration of thousands of city folks to rural areas, consequently causing an abandonment of old beliefs.
