Synopsis: On February 5th, Wuhan, China, many female doctors cut their hair short to improve their work efficiency in the battle against the pandemic. While there were voices complementing them as heroines, yet there were also critics arguing that these women’s rights had been violated. This led to our research question: how did the “stereotypical female figure” evolve in the collective unconscious of people? We decided to analyze how female figures are portrayed in representative Film & TV Works from different cultural area at the same time, and through contrast, discern the underlying socio-cultural forces that yield to such differentiation.
