Synopsis: South Korea was lauded for seemingly flattening the curve of the pandemic. But how? Was it the government? Top-notch healthcare? Collectivist culture, societal norms?
These stereotypic ideas make the average people from other countries feel powerless against COVID-19; they cannot completely overhaul governments, healthcare systems, or societies. However, the average person is part of the general population, whose choices have the potential to create ripples throughout the community. This paper investigates the extent of the general population’s role during a pandemic by analyzing the factors surrounding South Koreas’ successful response to COVID-19.
