Synopsis: As of October 1st, only about 24,000 South Koreans have been infected with COVID-19, an unbelievable number for the country’s population density of 1,366 people per square mile. In stark contrast, the U.S has over 7 million cases with a small 94 individuals every square mile. To better understand South Korea’s low COVID-19 cases and deaths, this paper focuses on the government’s role in controlling its effect on the country; done through analysis of infection and death statistics, hospital management and resource use, mitigation strategies, and development of treatments and vaccines.
