POSS Team: Youth for Beneficence

Synopsis: During the summer of the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, nine highschoolers embark on a journey to study another member of the same coronavirus family. Through the overwhelming societal panic and restrictions, they were able to finish their adventure strong, researching the 2003 SARS-CoV-2 pandemic and the origin, evolutionary medical understanding, misinformation, public measures, and socioeconomic results behind such a pathogen and its effects, while connecting back to the modern-day. This was an opportunity of immersion into the field of virology for the student scientists, while driving the pathway for these talented individuals to blossom into highly qualified professionals.
