Recently, Inside Higher Ed, a major education publication, featured Pioneer Academics in an article discussing the risks of in-person learning during the pandemic and difficulties students face during COVID19. Universities face significant challenges in reopening due to the nature of college life, such as dormitories and dining halls, as well as the fact that many college students do not fully understand the risks of Covid-19, or may feel invincible because of their young age.

To help students understand Covid-19 and its effect on the world, universities and other organizations have set up a variety of programs to educate students about Covid-19, including the new program Pioneer launched in response to Covid-19, POSS (Pioneer Open Summer Study). Through POSS, high school students around the world can dive into one of four topics, including three related to Covid-19.
