The Age of Plague: How Did Medieval Europe Respond to the Black Death Scientifically and Socially?

Synopsis: Team JSerra Lions’ research studies how the Black Death changed medical and scientific perspectives and how this prompted changes in society. Findings on medieval medicine provide a context for the state of medical knowledge and practices during the 14th century, examine the efficacy (or lack thereof) of bubonic plague treatments, and analyze how the devastating aftermath prompted changes in medical education and scientific perspectives. On the other hand, the team examined medieval society focusing on death rates variation, civil unrest, and the disruption of societal structure at the family level.
